Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

NIPT is a new type of test that analyzes your baby's DNA from a sample of your blood to predict the risk of Down Syndrome and several other chromosomal abnormalities.

 

This is a simple blood test done after 10 weeks. From your blood, tiny fragments of your baby's genetic material can be filtered out and tested for certain chromosomal abnormalities. It is more accurate than First Trimester Screening (FTS) and can detect over 99% of Down Syndrome. However, this test does not look at the structure of your baby and it is recommended that you also have an ultrasound done between 13 - 14 weeks.
